As I am always searching for art that inspires me, powerful and omnipotent art, my latest discovery has really made a huge impact on me.
A long time ago, as many other kids, I watched the famous movie <The Hunchback of Notre Dame>, though I do not recall enjoying it as much as I do know, discovering it's beauty in another form. As a connoisseur of the French language and a great admirer of the French literature and culture, it is easily understandable how I fell in love with such a masterpiece, the musical <Notre Dame de Paris>, which you can visualize with English subtitles here:

My God, when the song <Belle> starts, I am both on the verge of crying and fainting, such beauty, drama, one can not possibly remain calm and untouched.
This is what art is meant to do. It is meant to question the range of your feelings, it is meant to make you uneasy, to torture you with its perfection and eternity. When a true artist creates his works, he must be enduring a great deal of pain, since such art can destroy you with its power. How hard must it be to carry such emotion inside you, to cope with such battles fought in your body? Do you believe that Michelangelo created his non-finito feeling calm and at ease?
What is it like to know you have the power to touch so many souls, to cause so many different spectres of feelings? Is there any other type of power which can measure up to this one?
For me, there is not. I believe that art can overcome all limits, time, space, death, you name it. It is both a curse, and a blessing, that the human kind is thus capable of feeling emotions. Is there a weaker spot a human can have, other than the people he loves, the things he cares about? Can you destroy something one cares more about than that?
What happens when we lose it all?
Another song which captured my special attention in this musical is <You will destroy me>, where the Priest sings about the love he feels for Esmeralda, and how it will be the end of him.
Does the one true love have to destroy us? Is pain a precondition for love?
Finally, does the one we love have to feel the same threat of destruction?
Wishing you a calm beginning of the week,
With love,
Encantada.
