A Short Guide To Happiness

Since we were little all we ever heard was that we only have one life to live, so we are supposed to live it to the fullest. Can any one of us honestly admit they lead a happy and fulfilled life? From my point of view, not many people can claim that they are satisfied with their lives, for what it is worth, neither can I.

Is now not the right time to make a change?

In the spirit of Christmas and all the holidays that are coming, should we start the new year with a fresh start, a new chapter in our lives, with new goals and milestones to achieve?

No one can give you the one and only true path to happiness. Never believe such people who claim their journey to happiness can be yours too. The beauty in searching for happiness is that it is a unique as well as adventurous journey, different for each one of us, but equally important.

A short guide to happiness

1. Do the unexpected

Why not come out of your comfort zone and try something new? There is a huge variety of things you can do to enhance your daily life. It can be a simple change, such as changing the way you go to work, deciding to read at least one chapter of a book per day (perhaps before falling asleep), or even drinking a different type of coffee in the morning (or tea if you are not a coffee person). By slowly coming out of your comfort zone in time you will see how your daily routines held you down, you will see that something new does not always mean something dangerous, insignificant or simply stupid. Eventually, you can try practising an extreme sport, such as rafting or paragliding (sounds terrifying, but with the right company it may be a wonderful experience). Sit with your friends in a new cafe, buy yourself a purple bag even though you could have never previously see yourself wearing a bright purple bag, change your hairstyle, paint your walls in different shades of green, buy a pet to keep you company.

Push your limits and boundaries, until you have none at all, for only then you are invincible.

2. Sleep better

If I had a dime for every single time someone complained about not sleeping well the other night, I could have easily been in Paris right now, writing this post from the Eiffel Tower. How wonderful would it be to finally get rid of all the negative energy, problems but also anxiety, that prevent you from having your well-deserved sleep? How do we expect to lead happy lives if we are constantly tired? My advice is: learn how to block the negative thoughts that arise when you go to bed, get rid of the negative energy and hidden anger you accumulated over the day, perhaps try feng-shui! Meditating can ease your mind quickly, try listening to some Chopin while sipping a glass of vine at the end of your day, maybe even doing some running or other physical activity can relieve all the stress and anxiety that keep you from sleeping like a baby.
You can not change your life if you do not have the energy and will to do it.

3. Good company

This can probably never be stressed enough. Surround yourselves with positive people, with amusing friends, with your loved ones and family. You should absolutely avoid people who constantly complain, who have never anything encouraging to say, who never laugh. There are plenty of people left in the universe who you can talk to, without them causing you to feel uneasy or depressed. If you listen to a certain type of music, look out for concerts you can go to and meet new people who share your interests. The same goes for book clubs, sports enthusiasts, new parents, you name it. You do not even have to meet that often in person, the social media can connect you with people all around the world. Why not have a penfriend? Why not practise that long forgotten French with a French native?
Who you surround with affects who you are.

4. Laugh

Laugh at your own mistakes, failures, bad days, misunderstandings, etc. Why should you allow anything to bring you down? So what if you did not pass your test? There will be so many more test in your life, which you will pass. Why cry over spoilt milk, when it does not lead anywhere?
Laugh when you fall, because you know you will stand up in just a few seconds.

Hoping you will find these few advices helpful,
I wish you all a merry Christmas!
